About The Position

The Cath Lab Angiography/ Radiology Technician plays a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions by operating specialized imaging equipment to capture detailed angiographic images. This position requires precision and technical expertise to assist cardiologists during catheterization procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal imaging quality. The technician is responsible for preparing the catheterization laboratory, maintaining sterile environments, and managing the technical aspects of angiographic equipment. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team is essential to provide comprehensive care and support throughout invasive cardiovascular procedures. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to accurate diagnosis, effective treatment planning, and improved patient outcomes in cardiovascular care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology or Radiologic Technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience operating angiographic and fluoroscopic imaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control standards in a clinical setting.
  • Have a minimum of one-year invasive vascular procedural experience or demonstrate knowledge and ability in cardiovascular procedures; or have a minimum of two years' experience as a registered Radiologic Technologist and have demonstrated the ability and desire to assist with these procedures.
  • Good physical health is required.
  • Must be able to work long hours standing and wearing lead protective aprons as necessary.
  • Will be working in an area of ionizing radiation.
  • Will work with patients with communicable diseases and may be exposed to blood and body fluids.
  • Extensive amounts of assisting, pushing, pulling and lifting patients is required.
  • Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks without specific supervision.
  • Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20-45 minutes at a time.
  • Individual must be able to understand and relate to the concepts behind specific ideas and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally, using advanced level of vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and families of all age groups, all radiology/nuclear medicine staff, referring physicians and residents, nursing scheduling, patient escort services and administration who may or may not be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Frequent interaction with personnel in other departments and with vendors.
  • The ability to maintain confidential information.
  • The Cath Lab Angiography Technician utilizes technical skills daily to operate complex imaging equipment, ensuring precise and clear angiographic images that are critical for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to sterile protocols are essential to maintain patient safety and prevent infections during invasive procedures.
  • Effective communication skills enable the technician to collaborate seamlessly with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, facilitating smooth procedural workflows.
  • Problem-solving abilities are applied when troubleshooting equipment issues or adapting to dynamic clinical situations.
  • Organizational skills support accurate documentation and efficient management of supplies, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the catheterization laboratory.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience working in a high-volume cardiac catheterization laboratory.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and documentation.
  • Additional certifications in radiologic technology or cardiovascular interventions.
  • Strong background in patient care and cardiovascular anatomy.
