The Anesthesia Tech supports the Anesthesiology Department by maintaining equipment and supplies, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and assisting with patient care as directed. Ability to travel to all Independence Health facilities is required. This role involves delivering direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of care. The technician will perform and/or assist with patient care needs, collect and report patient care data, obtain individual patient care equipment, and transport patients as directed. They will also assist in developing an educational process for patient care activities, obtain necessary resources, and report patient readiness to learn to the RN/CRNA. Maintaining collaborative relationships with other healthcare providers, communicating pertinent information, and participating in unit performance improvement activities are key aspects of the role. The technician will assist in data collection, recommend modifications for performance improvement, and demonstrate leadership by utilizing the behaviors inherent to the role of a nursing assistant. Problem-solving using critical thinking skills and seeking assistance from supervisors when appropriate are expected. The role includes maintaining accountability for actions, functioning effectively as a resource person, and acting as a patient advocate. The technician may also serve as a preceptor/mentor to new hires and/or students and assist in maintaining/decreasing organizational/department costs. Specific duties include cleaning and processing fiberoptic bronchoscopes, maintaining the Steris sterilizer unit, stocking and checking specialty carts, and assisting with departmental compliance with regulatory agencies like JCAHO and OSHA. They will also assist in continuous survey readiness, adhere to infection control processes, and ensure sufficient supplies (linens, sterile supplies) are maintained on assigned units, monitoring expiration dates. Sterilizing equipment, providing for patient safety, utilizing two forms of patient identification, assuming appropriate code team roles, and responding effectively during emergency situations are also part of the responsibilities. The technician will complete proper specimen collection, labeling, and delivery, ensure replacement of instruments and supplies, and clean instruments, supplies, and anesthesia machines per the routing cleaning schedule.
