About The Position

Provides general assistance to anesthesia providers before, during, and immediately following surgical procedures and activities. Supports the anesthesia care team by cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment, and stocking clinical sites. The position is onsite at the Allentown location and works day shift with variable shifts based on need.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Less than one year of experience.
• Ability to use critical-thinking skills to triage tasks in high-stress situations.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and sterile techniques.
• Knowledge of patient rights and laws related to those rights, such as HIPAA.
• Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required upon hire in Pennsylvania.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) certification through ASATT, required upon hire in Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic point-of-care laboratory testing, including arterial blood gas, blood coagulation, serum glucose, serum electrolytes, and serum hemoglobin tests.
• Set up supplies and assist with placement of arterial lines, central lines, epidural catheters, and spinal anesthetics.
• Document damaged equipment and report equipment problems to the appropriate authority.
• Obtain blood and blood products and transfer laboratory specimens according to policy.
• Acquire anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures and the workroom.
• Maintain anesthesia equipment and provide preventative maintenance.
• Follow procedural protocols for equipment setup, maintenance, cleaning, and sterilization.
• Distribute used or dirty equipment to the appropriate area for decontamination and sterilization.
• Transport anesthesia equipment and supply carts to off-site anesthetizing locations.
