About The Position

The Anesthesia Technician II is a member of the Anesthesia department who provides technical support to the CRNA and/or Anesthesiologist in order to facilitate the delivery of safe and efficient anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technician II delivers care to patients of all ages, striving toward improving the performance of clinical activities during selected periods of the Perioperative experience under the direct supervision of the CRNA or Anesthesiologist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association
  • Less than 1 (one) year health care experience
  • Communication and relationship skills, visual and hearing acuity, highly organized and self-directed.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia machines and accessory equipment.
  • Knowledge of ordering and maintaining inventory with special eye toward fiscal responsibility.
  • Must have basic patient care associate knowledge, appropriate to all age groups.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and communicates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new methods, procedures and techniques resulting from departmental or organization change.
  • Adapts quickly and easily to change and adjusted behavior and approach to work when necessary to achieve goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as A.T.T. & ACLS.
  • One (1) year Anesthesia Technician experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists anesthesia with difficult intubations, use of flexible scopes, use of TEE, regional blocks, and induction of anesthesia and wake-up of patients.
  • Actively performs tasks that support as well as adherence to efficiency expectations of the unit to include but not limited to on-time first case starts and room turnover times.
  • Maintains and operates Cell Saver in surgical cases.
  • Maintains constant inventory of anesthesia medications, intravenous solutions, inhalation agents and anesthesia supplies. Maintains difficult intubations carts, Trauma carts, malignant hyperthermia cart, block carts and pediatric carts are stocked and cleaned per established policy.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots problems with anesthesia equipment and maintains all equipment.
  • Sets up invasive monitoring equipment for line placement.
  • Provides patient centered care and demonstrated BEST must have behaviors to achieve a high level of patient/family satisfaction such as: AIDET, communication with family during perioperative phase, managing up, etc.
  • Follows correct infection control practices including, but not limited to correct wearing of surgical attire and use of PPE, hand washing practices and scrub practices.
  • Ensures effective and safe care for patients by complying with organizational staffing and scheduling guidelines such as: attendance, floating, mandatory overtime, on-call, holiday coverage and disaster response.
  • Adheres to all organizational polices to include but not limited to: attire, time and attendance, cell phone, electronic media, social media, and parking.
  • Proactively maintains current certifications and competencies. Participates in continuing education.
  • Attends required safety training programs, weekly meetings and in-services.
  • Participates in peer interviewing and peer reviews as requested.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned within job specifications.
