The Anesthesia Tech maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies, and personnel to facilitate department functions. This role involves setting up anesthesia equipment, understanding the function and use of each item (e.g., invasive pressure monitoring, IVs, airway equipment), and obtaining/stocking supplies and equipment as requested by the anesthesia care team. The technician is responsible for maintaining adequate par levels of anesthesia supplies in all anesthetizing locations, including travel carts, emergency airway carts, and regional carts. A key aspect of this role is demonstrating detailed technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability for anesthesia delivery systems (anesthesia machines) and monitoring equipment. The Anesthesia Tech also cleans anesthesia machines, monitors, and equipment following infection control procedures, disposes of contaminated items according to policy, and maintains equipment inventory to track repairs, loaners, and demos. Knowledge of the location of material safety data sheets (MSDS) on hazardous materials is also required.
