About The Position

Join the Software team to design, build, and evolve native Android applications used by players and coaches. This product-focused role involves owning features end to end, from Bluetooth communication with wearable GPS devices and data synchronization to polished user experiences built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. You will collaborate with Product Owners, designers, and iOS and backend engineers, and help deliver AI-powered features on-device and through the company’s AWS generative AI stack. The role includes developing and supporting Android apps, integrating connected wearable hardware and backend services, improving offline-first functionality, maintaining the release pipeline, and ensuring the reliability, performance, and battery efficiency of shipped software. You will work in an Agile environment and contribute to planning, reviews, and continuous delivery.

Requirements

  • Experience building and shipping native Android applications in Kotlin.
  • Comfort with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines and Flow, and dependency injection such as Hilt or similar.
  • Understanding of the Android platform, including app lifecycle, background execution limits, runtime permissions, and device and OS-version fragmentation.
  • Clear communication and collaborative working skills across product, design, and engineering.
  • Ability to reason through problems, articulate thinking, and investigate issues efficiently from limited information.
  • Creative problem-solving and willingness to take ownership and learn.
  • Genuine interest in sport.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Android Bluetooth LE APIs or connected-device and wearable apps.
  • Experience with Health Connect, location services, or Room.
  • Experience consuming REST APIs and working alongside backend engineers.
  • Exposure to AWS services such as S3, serverless technologies, or Bedrock.
  • Familiarity with iOS or Swift.
  • Experience using AI tools in a development workflow and curiosity about applying AI in products.
  • Evidence of personal projects, such as a Google Play app, a personal or team-built project, or an open-source contribution.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and support native Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android architecture.
  • Build Bluetooth Low Energy communication with wearable devices, including pairing, data transfer, and background synchronization.
  • Build and integrate AI-powered features using AWS Bedrock services and explore on-device capabilities such as ML Kit and Gemini Nano.
  • Integrate with serverless backend APIs and design offline-first functionality using caching and synchronization, such as Room.
  • Own and improve the release pipeline, including Gradle builds, CI/CD, Play Console testing tracks, and staged rollouts.
  • Write unit and UI tests using tools such as JUnit, Compose UI testing, and Espresso.
  • Take responsibility for the reliability, performance, and battery impact of shipped applications.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, designers, and the iOS team to turn ideas into cross-platform features for players and coaches.
  • Bring creative, outside-the-box thinking to problems.
  • Participate in Agile planning, reviews, and continuous delivery.
  • Investigate and communicate technical or support issues, including diagnosing problems from limited information and distinguishing technical issues from user error.

Benefits

  • Product-focused work building AI-powered mobile apps used by players at scale.
  • Ownership of meaningful features from concept through delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with connected wearable hardware, modern Android tooling, and AWS AI services.
  • A culture that values curiosity, autonomy, learning, and a genuine love of sport.
  • The chance to see work used by players every day.
