About The Position

E Ink is seeking an Analytical Scientist for its Fremont Research & Development team. The role performs routine and advanced analytical measurements on materials used in E Ink displays, including particles, colloidal dispersions, polymers, and inks. It combines hands-on laboratory work with analytical method development and continuous improvement of characterization techniques. Working closely with senior scientists, the Analytical Scientist helps investigate material behavior and unexpected experimental results, identify root causes, and develop methods that improve understanding of material and process performance.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
  • 0–3 years of industrial experience in analytical chemistry, materials characterization, or a related laboratory environment.
  • Curiosity and interest in understanding the science and mechanisms behind material behavior.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented laboratory approach and commitment to producing accurate, reliable data.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop characterization techniques for materials and processes used in colloidal dispersions, connect findings to device performance, and develop critical-to-function analytical metrics.
  • Establish process-structure-property relationships through fundamental mechanism studies, test method introductions, and root cause analysis.
  • Improve analytical methods to increase measurement accuracy, repeatability, throughput, and robustness.
  • Develop, optimize, validate, and standardize analytical test methods, and design and perform Gage R&R studies.
  • Prepare samples and perform routine characterization of particles, inks, and formulations using analytical instrumentation.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate analytical instruments to ensure reliable and reproducible measurements.
  • Analyze data and document results in laboratory notebooks and technical reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and documentation in accordance with EH&S requirements and laboratory best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional R&D teams.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
