About The Position

Metlang is a veteran-owned provider of interpretation, translation, and monitoring services to the law enforcement community nationwide. Since 1990, it has provided these services to the United States Department of Justice. The company employs bilingual professionals with advanced or expert-level fluency in more than 100 languages and dialects.

Urdu and Punjabi Analytic Linguists monitor, transcribe, translate, interpret, and analyze source material to assist law enforcement investigations involving narco-trafficking, counterfeiting, terrorism, fraud, and money laundering. This is rewarding, project-based, on-site employment. The role pays $45 per hour and offers major medical insurance pending eligibility, a 401(k) retirement account, sick time, paid vacation, and paid federal holidays.

Candidates must be available to work full time locally and travel out of state for extended periods. They must pass a Government security background investigation and meet eligibility and suitability requirements.

Requirements

• Clear, concise, and effective written and spoken communication skills in English, Urdu, and Punjabi.
• Experience summarizing and translating audio and text, including slang and colloquialisms, in real time.
• Prior interpreting and translating experience in a law enforcement setting.
• Ability to prioritize tasks while demonstrating attention to detail and organization skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media, and text-message terminology in English, Urdu, and Punjabi.
• Typing speed exceeding 40 words per minute.
• Ability to adapt under pressure and function cohesively in a team environment.
• Availability to work a rotating schedule.
• Must pass writing, reading, listening, and speaking language tests in English, Urdu, and Punjabi, or provide prior test results as required by contract.
• Availability to work full time locally and travel out of state for extended periods.
• Must pass a Government security background investigation and meet eligibility and suitability requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor foreign-language communications by listening or reading, then type summaries in English.
• Transcribe spoken language into written form in the same language.
• Translate spoken or written material from one language into written form in another language.
• Interpret orally and consecutively or simultaneously from a source language into a target language.
• Analyze information methodically and in detail for purposes of explanation and interpretation.
