About The Position

The Analyst role on the US manager research fixed income team is responsible for producing high-quality strategy-level analysis and broader asset class research that helps investors make better decisions. This role also serves the team through covering select asset management firms as a parent lead and when appropriate mentoring newer analysts. This position is based in our Chicago office. We are in-office 4 days/week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; an MBA, CFA, CFP or other advanced degree/accreditation a plus.
  • Two to four years of experience in manager research or a related role.
  • Fixed income subject matter expertise with specialization in a particular bond sector a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategy level analysis.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak professionally with investment management teams and institutional clients.
  • Strong planning and time-management skills.
  • The ability to make good decisions under tight deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without a sponsorship agreement.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (i.e. Python, R, MATLAB) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a collaborative team culture that aims for and prizes high-quality research, resulting in analyses that are insightful, ratings that are good calls for investors, and broader research that helps investors understand the fixed income managed products landscape.
  • Continue to pursue general fixed income subject matter expertise while striving to specialize in one or more bond sectors.
  • Engage with the external market (media, wealth managers, regulators) to strengthen understanding of Morningstar capabilities.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and/or the development of analytical tools using Morningstar Intellectual Property that improve fixed income strategy analysis.
  • Mentor and help train new analysts.
