About The Position

Supports researchers using large-scale computing and storage infrastructure, including systems housed at SFU and other Canadian Digital Research Infrastructure facilities. Provides application support while assisting in configurations, implementations, and modifications of new and existing research computing facilities. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and technically versatile research computing professional with strong expertise in high-performance computing, cloud infrastructure, and software deployment. They bring experience supporting complex research environments, including virtual machines, batch scheduling systems, and advanced scientific software stacks. The candidate is an independent problem solver who can navigate diverse computational challenges, provide sound technical recommendations, and build strong partnerships with researchers to support innovative, data-intensive research projects.

Requirements

Master's degree in science, computing science, or related discipline (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience)
Three years of experience deploying complex research software packages.
Knowledge of automation technologies like Puppet, Ansible, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of various operating system automated deployment technology such as Anaconda/Kickstart, cloud-init, and Windows Deployment Services.
Knowledge of workload orchestration platforms and tools such as Hashicorp Nomad, Consul, Vault and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of deploying virtual machines and containers using OpenStack of VMware environments.
