About The Position

Peel Public Health aims to improve early child development outcomes for all children in Peel to promote lifelong health and well-being, reduce disparities and improve the health status of the population. Using critical skills in program planning, data analysis, evidence reviews, policy consultation and analysis, monitoring and assessment of legislation, and report writing, you will provide expert guidance and advice on the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, policies and processes to achieve divisional, departmental and corporate outcomes to achieve a Community for Life.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in Public Health Sciences or a relevant discipline
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in a Public Health setting
  • Broad knowledge of public health issues and applicable legislation
  • Experience in evidence-informed decision-making methodology, project management, project leadership
  • Experience with epidemiological study design and application of research evidence in practice
  • Knowledge of analytical, statistical and epidemiological methods
  • Experience in policy and procedure development
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e., Excel, Visio)
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
  • Strong research (with knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods) and analytical skills
  • Strong facilitation, project management, collaboration, planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced knowledge of public health and/or technical knowledge regarding population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and evidence-informed decision making
  • Provide expert interpretation of legislation and relevant external and internal policies and procedures
  • Monitor, identify, analyze health status data and policies/research to provide recommendations on trends, risks and opportunities
  • Interpret and analyze complex information to provide strategic and operational recommendations to guide policy and program decisions
  • Analyze information to identify emerging issues and trends and incorporate relevant findings into recommendations for policy and program development
  • Monitor, develop, implement and advocate for policies that will have positive population health implications
  • Provide expert guidance to the program and evaluation planning process
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, collaborative and strategic partnerships/relationships with internal colleagues and external partners
  • Ensure issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in research and policy analyses
  • Prepare specialized documentation, reports and statistical analyses
  • Synthesize complex information into a wide range of written and visual communication products such as reviews of research evidence, briefing documents, policy positions, council reports, and presentations
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at local and provincial meetings and conferences, as required
