About The Position

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The role involves supporting efforts to ensure that FirstEnergy's Ohio distribution utilities receive adequate and timely recovery of their costs. This includes supporting the implementation of House Bill 15, which involves preparing multi-year rate plan schedules, assisting with testimony, the discovery process, and annual revenue and expense reconciliation. The position requires using analytical skills to understand various ratemaking concepts such as revenue requirements, cost allocation, cost of return, regulatory accounting, and the time value of money. It also involves strengthening relationships with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and other external regulatory bodies, developing strategies for regulatory and engineering matters like grid modernization and emerging technologies, and supporting customer service and engineering organizations on tariff implementation and other customer inquiries. The role includes conducting business-specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results, making recommendations, and providing analytical support to management. Employees at the Analyst III-V level are expected to perform these responsibilities with greater proficiency and independence, and may be assigned additional duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, math or related discipline required.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience required (for Analyst II).
  • Relevant work experience will include analytical, research and relationship building skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word).
  • Must be willing to travel for business to other company locations and Columbus, Ohio as appropriate for hearings, meetings and other activities, which may include overnight travel.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and develop relationships.
  • Strong analytical abilities, including problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making.
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.

  • Relevant work experiences will include advanced analytical, research and relationship building skills.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant work experience required (for Analyst V).
  • Relevant work experience will include advanced analytical, research and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to become subject matter expert on Rates and Regulatory Affairs issues with the potential to submit and support expert testimony in Company rate proceedings.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience in SAP, Business Explorer, Qlikview, Toad, Power BI, or other data querying tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting efforts to ensure that FirstEnergy's Ohio distribution utilities receive adequate and timely recovery of their costs.
  • Supporting the Companies’ implementation of House Bill 15, which includes preparation of multi-year rate plan schedules, supporting the writing of testimony, the discovery process, and annual revenue and expense reconciliation.
  • Using analytical skills to develop an understanding of various ratemaking concepts, including revenue requirements, cost allocation, cost of service, rate of return, regulatory accounting, and the time value of money.
  • Assisting in strengthening the relationship between FirstEnergy's Ohio utility companies and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) by establishing rapport with the PUCO Staff and other members of the external regulatory community.
  • Assisting in the development of strategies on other regulatory and engineering matters, such as grid modernization, emerging technologies, line extensions, and lighting.
  • Supporting the regional customer service and engineering organizations on matters such as tariff implementation and enforcement, and other customer inquiries.
  • Conducting business-specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results, and making recommendations.
  • Meeting the needs of internal and external customers through sound service and responsiveness.
  • Providing analytical support to management.
  • Exercising sound decision making by developing alternatives and recommendations to advance Company positions and improve work processes.
  • Developing effective working relationship with employees within the Rates team and throughout the FirstEnergy organization.
  • Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand evolving regulatory and policy issues.
