About The Position

This role is for an Analyst within the Portfolio Management Group at MUFG's Global Corporate & Investment Bank, focusing on the Diversified Industrials sector. The incumbent will be a corporate finance professional supporting corporate coverage within an industry vertical lending business. A key responsibility is assessing credit risk factors to determine appropriate risk ratings and credit hold levels according to established policies. The role involves actively managing a designated client portfolio, performing due diligence, preparing credit analyses, and monitoring credit profiles for changes to maximize net income and reduce credit costs. The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of substantive portfolio management, corporate credit, and/or other similar experience with an emphasis on credit and analytical experience.
  • Completion of a formal credit-training program at a money center bank is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, or related discipline.
  • CFA is an asset.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and balanced decision-making skills.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills are required, including those required for credit applications and Quarterly Credit Watch presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of a commercial loan portfolio within a segment of an industry vertical.
  • Perform due diligence and regularly scheduled evaluations of their assigned loan portfolio, which is subject to change relative to the client portfolio.
  • Support the preparation of detailed credit analyses and required credit applications in accordance with and pursuant to policy, including the evaluation of corporate, regulatory and industry risk, historical operating performance, projected operating performance and capital structure.
  • Ensure timely coordination and communication of account information across various constituencies throughout the organization.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of macro-level country/risk factors.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant industries, including all current events pertaining to an assigned portfolio utilizing internal and external sources.
  • For assigned accounts, provide oversight of covenant compliance, facility closing due diligence, legal documentation and ongoing monitoring of credit conditions, if any.
  • Attend RM customer meetings as appropriate.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Work within a deal team environment supporting Senior Portfolio Managers in the development and analysis of financing structures/strategies to support/identify LBO, M&A and Corporate re-capitalization opportunities.
  • Pre-screen proposed transactions to identify critical structural issues and risks, balancing institutional policy with business development needs.
  • Work on structured credit transactions (including Financial Solution opportunities, securitizations, supply chain, specialized leasing transactions, and up-tier proposals).
  • Understand and maintain base industry knowledge of industries represented in the portfolio, including technical aspects, regulatory issues and unique credit product activity.
  • Participate in client and bank meetings as necessary.
  • Support Senior Portfolio Managers in communicating and/or negotiating with CDA for transaction approval, including final hold level strategies to ensure alignment of risk strategy and policy.
  • Evaluate and establish appropriate ratings for transactions and correlate appropriate exposure levels at both the transaction and group level.
  • Ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.
