About The Position

Conning is a leading global investment management firm with a long history of serving the insurance industry. We develop customized investment strategies that address our clients’ unique objectives, requirements and tolerance for risk. We develop solutions by leveraging Conning’s risk management tools and utilizing a highly disciplined investment process that relies on fundamental analysis. Develop and apply municipal credit expertise to generate forward-looking credit views, internal ratings, and investment recommendations across a range of municipal sectors. Responsibilities include fundamental and market-based research, ongoing credit surveillance, and clear communication of insights to portfolio managers and the broader investment team. Work product includes concise written reports, data-driven analysis, and proactive identification of emerging risks and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFA designation or progress preferred.
  • 3–5 years of municipal or fixed income credit experience.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, well-supported conclusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data tools; experience with Power BI, Python, or similar tools is a plus, along with familiarity with AI-enabled tools (e.g., Copilot) to enhance research efficiency and insight generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to research and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive fundamental credit analysis across multiple municipal sectors, incorporating financial, economic, policy, and demographic factors.
  • Formulate and maintain internal credit ratings and outlooks, with clear supporting rationale.
  • Monitor issuer performance and market developments, proactively identifying credit risks and opportunities.
  • Produce clear, concise, and actionable research for portfolio managers and investment committees.
  • Communicate credit views and recommendations effectively across the investment platform.
  • Contribute to sector research, thematic analysis, and team-wide initiatives, including data and technology enhancements.
