About The Position

The Analyst, Material & Chemical Conformity is responsible for supporting material and chemical compliance activities across product development and manufacturing. Reporting to the Director, Sustainability & Stewardship, the role supports the Senior Specialist, Material & Chemical Conformity in collecting, validating, and analyzing substance and material data for materials, components, and assemblies. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, EHS, Procurement and individual suppliers, the Analyst ensures timely, accurate, and complete material disclosures and compliance with applicable material and chemical regulations and internal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or other related scientific discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in an automotive, manufacturing, or product development environment.
  • Experience with IMDS, material compliance, supplier quality, or engineering data strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of materials (metals, polymers, coatings) and substance-level reporting concepts
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and quality
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, succinct manner.
  • Hands on experience and knowledge of life cycle assessment and/or quantitative sustainability modelling.
  • Ability to manage, organize, and optimize complex datasets, databases, and information to extract meaning and identify impact points.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate IMDS Material Data Sheets (MDS) for all materials, components and assemblies
  • Validate supplier MDS submissions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IMDS and OEM-specific rules (including material classifications, part structure, and substance-level reporting)
  • Screen supplier MDS submissions against OEM restricted substance lists, GADSL, TSCA, US State PFAS, California Prop 65 and other restricted chemical lists/requirements
  • Accept, reject, or request corrections to supplier MDS submissions with clear, actionable feedback.
  • Build relationships with Engineering, Production, Supplier Quality, and Employee Health and Safety
  • Communicate with Engineering locally and internationally to resolve validation questions and material composition issues
  • Track MDS acceptance and completion metrics to support program timelines and escalate risks, where needed
  • Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of chemicals brought on site for compliance with the US OSHA Hazcom Standard as well as internal procedures
  • Monitor OEM-relevant chemical and material compliance regulations across the US and Canada
  • Assist with regulatory impact assessments on new vehicle programs (e.g., upcoming PFAS restrictions)
  • Update IT processes and controlled documents if required by new or updated regulations
  • Assess GHS hazard classifications, basic toxicology and ecotoxicology as well as occupational exposure limits
  • Maintain high data quality standards and participate in continuous improvements to OEM material compliance processes
  • Generate reports from IMDS data to support other departments
  • Familiarize self with software basics to support improvements to our compliance software through writing requirements documents, configuration and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Communicate with global suppliers to correct or clarify IMDS submission requirements
  • Provide guidance on OEM reporting expectations, material format requirements, and common IMDS errors
  • Drive timely resubmission and closure of rejected or incomplete MDS submissions
  • Support supplier readiness and compliance for new vehicle launches
