About The Position

The Industrials Group provides investment banking services to leading corporate and private equity clients focused on the capital goods, engineered products, diversified, mobility, aerospace, industrial services, and industrial technology sectors. The Group’s strategic mandate is to assist companies as they navigate changes in the industrial landscape, particularly within the energy ecosystem and the impact of technology. Our client-centric approach leads with M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt, equity, and loan capital markets. We also deliver complex risk hedging solutions to clients. The Industrials Group focuses extensively on leading private equity sponsors providing strategic advice, including sell-side M&A, as well as debt and equity financings, buyout financings, and risk management solutions. The Group has a global coverage strategy across North America, Europe, and Asia. We have bankers in New York and Chicago and partner with colleagues in other major cities, including Houston, San Francisco, Toronto, and London UK. With guidance from Managing Directors, Executive Directors or Directors, you will complete assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through transaction and financing execution, client relationship support, industry and company research, and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with steep learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses with exposure to company executives, private equity partners, and boards of directors.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree
  • A minimum of 0 to 3 years of previous experience in investment banking
  • Meaningful financial modeling and analysis experience
  • Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses
  • Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations
  • Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (FactSet, Bloomberg) and other applicable software
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues
  • Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing all facets of the group’s mandates
  • Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
  • Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals, “pitchbooks” and the execution of new and existing client mandates
  • Develop and audit sophisticated financial models
  • Participate in cross functional teams and liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients
  • Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations
  • Lead industry comparable value and transaction precedent analyses
  • Assist in company due diligence investigations
  • Support senior investment banking colleagues
  • Take advantage of in depth technical and industry knowledge, as well as the geopolitical environment to generate transaction ideas/opportunities that can be discussed with the relevant relationship manager and deal/coverage teams
  • Grow your internal and external networks by participating in coordinating client-focused and/or deal-focused “brainstorming” sessions with relevant team members and product specialists, liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients, developing relationships and actively communicating with various appropriate contacts at our clients, developing and maintaining an internal network with product groups and other business groups, and developing and maintaining an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders, clients, prospects, etc.)
  • Support CIBC’s “Culture of Care” through involvement in community activities
