About The Position

The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR), Taxation Division, promotes voluntary compliance with all tax laws through education, assistance, and customer service. The Taxpayer Services Business Group supports a variety of tax administration programs and works closely with taxpayers and local governments throughout Colorado. This role is for a detail-oriented and versatile Analyst III to support the Taxpayer Service (TPS) Business Group, with a primary focus on supporting operations between the Department of Revenue and Colorado local governments. The Analyst III will analyze local tax distributions, support tax administration processes, communicate with cities, counties, and special districts, maintain publications and records, and help ensure accurate and timely information is provided to local government partners. Additionally, the Analyst III will provide GenTax system guidance and assist local governments with tax-related questions, changes, and concerns.

Requirements

  • Residency Requirement: This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.
  • Six (6) years of experience in taxation, legal research and analysis, policy formulation, administrative rulemaking, or drafting publications.
  • OR A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field determined by the Department may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

  • As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy.
  • Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment.
  • Pursuant to the Universal Driving Standards Policy, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
  • Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: Have an assigned State fleet vehicle, Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with local Governments regarding sales tax distributions, problems, issues, tax rate changes, company locations and the new GenTax processes.
  • Assist incoming local government correspondences, questions, and concerns then provide guidance or advice.
  • Manage the publications for local lodging rates, and additional new taxing authorities to taxpayers.
  • Maintain a filing system for all documentation with local governments.
  • Analyze the status of tax distributions to the local governments to detect problems, trends and anomalies, discrepancies and provide reports on the distribution.
  • Notify local governments by phone, e-mail or face to face contact of any problems, concerns or changes that may impact them.
