About The Position

The Global Equity Derivative administration with Business and Client Services and the Settlements and Clearing Services pillar, provides operational support to the Global Equities desk within Capital Markets. The team provides a variety of services, including but not limited to cash settlement, coupon calculations, rate setting, cash and G/L reconciliation. Products supported are multi-currency and encompass all types of Derivative Swaps (Equity, Interest Rate, Asset, Variance, Credit Derivative), Options and index linked notes. The role is responsible on execution within defined parameters, with some expansion based on developing capabilities and/or experiences, in partnership with more experienced staff. In addition the role, you will also be required to manage the day-to-day operational support for all OTC Equity Derivative trading groups globally. Provide operational support for DCG, CMA, GELP and Central Funding. Handle multiple back office functions for Ds Inc. and Alternative Assets trading when needed as well. Ensure all responsibilities are carried out in accordance with RBC Code of Conduct, RBC Values and Guiding Principles ensuring adherence to RBC Privacy principles.

Requirements

  • MBA/University Degree and/or relevant professional training
  • Minimum 4-6 years of related work experience - Knowledge of end-to-end trade life cycle functions/processes within Capital Markets, trade terminology and OTC derivatives products e.g. Equity swaps, credit default swaps, variance swaps, options, asset swaps, interest rate swap, forwards, equity linked notes, commodity linked notes, accumulators, deccumulators.
  • Experience in calculations used to support settlement of derivative products.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving - high degree of accuracy and ability to analyze large amounts of data.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of adaptability in a dynamic global team environment
  • Competent Excel Skills (Pivot Tables, Functions/Formulas)

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of OTC Derivative trade validation, maintenance, affirmation, settlement and regulatory reporting.
  • Perform trade validation when new trades are booked and identify and escalate issues as needed.
  • Validate process and settle all periodic events to ensure the integrity of the entire trade life cycle.
  • Liaise with counterparties to ensure payments are settled as scheduled.
  • Perform trade affirmation with counterparties to minimize risk.
  • Track and monitor outgoing and incoming payments with counterparties and escalate payment failures when required.
  • Perform interest claim and counterclaim analysis and provide to trading partners for approval when required.
  • Perform position and cash reconciliation for desks in Sophis where required.
  • Responsible for following established guidelines and identifying and resolving problems. Individuals at this level are expected to use some independence of thought but to refer more complex problems to supervisors or other experts. Individuals would be expected to contribute to work flow or process change and redesign, and to form a strong basic understanding of the specific function.
  • Perform both daily or routine regulatory reporting tasks as well as ad-hoc requests and projects.
  • Be able to competently support other trading groups in the Global Equity Derivatives space when colleagues are out of the office.
  • Perform ad-hoc request support and analysis when requested.
