About The Position

Altus Group is currently seeking a Cost Analyst for our Development Advisory business unit, based out of our downtown Toronto office. The Analyst will provide technical support for a variety of cost consulting services to new and existing clients as directed by senior staff members, completing quantity surveying tasks such as project statistics, measuring quantities, reaching out to the market for pricing etc. This role will have the opportunity to be exposed to various sectors, including residential, rail, road, highway, aviation, commercial, institutional and industrial projects.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil/Structural Engineering or Building Science
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role in cost consulting, quantity surveying or cost estimating is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of the construction industry including development, contracting and consulting sectors
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills (interpersonal, written & verbal)
  • Understanding of construction schedules and strong ability to work within defined deadlines
  • Ability to maximize the use of appropriate software and technology, such as CAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Candidates understands construction methodology, site safety, the CIQS standard method of measurement (elemental/trade), provincial lien act, and standard contract conditions (CCDC)
  • Understanding of general contract vs. construction management forms and ability to interpret and take-off architectural and structural drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with take-off programs, such as CostX, is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting senior staff to service clients in all pre-contract activities, comprising estimate developments from concept stage through to pre-tender stage, helping with market benchmarking, escalation cost, etc. Escalate issues to the next level of management as required.
  • Assist with construction estimating (quantity takeoffs) for architectural, structural, civil, landscaping, etc. using onscreen takeoff software (CostX, BlueBeam, etc.)
  • Participating with the project team to achieve the goals within the parameters set for financial, time and people resources.
  • Undertaking and completing site visits & estimating reports.
  • Inputting/reconciling construction cost/budget reports.
  • Researching local suppliers and trades and updating database on prices/quotes.
  • Assisting in the implementation of initiatives for continuous process improvement to increase efficiency & effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with various internal/external partners to obtain the necessary information to prepare proposals/reports.
