About The Position

At Alto, we are actively contributing to the transformation of Canada's future with our high-speed train project connecting Quebec City and Toronto. Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge? We are looking for an Analyst, Cost Control. This position may be based in either our Montreal or Toronto office. Reporting to the Director, Cost Control, the Analyst, Cost Controls will support the Cost Control team by performing detailed reviews of project invoices, validating financial data, maintaining project master data files, and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and internal controls. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately with large volumes of financial information in a fast-paced project environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in cost control, project controls, financial analysis, accounts payable review, or invoice verification.
  • Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, lookups, data validation, reconciliation techniques).
  • Experience working with large datasets and performing detailed financial reviews.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies and anomalies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in infrastructure, construction, engineering, or project environments is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify project invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Validate hourly rates, classifications, timesheets, per diems, travel expenses, taxes, escalation factors, and other billable costs.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations between invoices, supporting documentation, contracts, purchase orders, and approved budgets.
  • Identify discrepancies, calculation errors, missing documentation, and potential compliance issues.
  • Prepare and maintain project master lists, cost tracking files, and control registers.
  • Perform data quality reviews and validation of financial and operational information.
  • Support monthly invoicing, accrual, and reporting activities.
  • Assist in maintaining cost control processes, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Produce ad hoc analyses and reports to support management decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and project partners to resolve billing or data-related issues.
  • Support audit activities by ensuring documentation is complete, traceable, and properly maintained.
