About The Position

The Business Development Analyst, Private Equity (PE) will serve as a critical strategic resource within Spencer Stuart’s Private Equity Practice, supporting the firm’s growing advisory portfolio and enabling high‑quality, responsive business development and client engagement efforts. This individual will partner closely with PE Consultants, and the Leadership Advisory Services (LAS) Client Development team (CDT) to design bespoke client proposals, develop compelling presentation materials, and strengthen the firm’s overall go‑to‑market execution within the PE advisory space. The Business Development Analyst will bring consulting acumen, strong analytical capability, robust learning agility, and exceptional communication skills to ensure that clients receive timely, best‑in‑class proposals and materials. By assuming ownership of proposal development, pitch support, and content customization, this role will meaningfully enhance responsiveness to clients allowing leaders to focus on client delivery, relationship building, and strategic account management. In addition to driving proposal excellence, the Business Development Analyst will contribute to the development of the PE knowledge ecosystem, product output design, and consistent client delivery. This includes building and maintaining a robust library of off‑the-shelf materials, anonymized client decks, sample reports, use‑case‑specific starter kits, pricing examples, and curated insights in collaboration with practice leadership. Moreover, the Business Development Analyst can expect to join client conversations and inbounds to help translate client needs into action, and ensure consistent delivery standards in our methodology, framing, and output. The role will also assist in broader research and business development initiatives, enabling the practice to deliver more data‑driven insights and scale its thought leadership.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of professional services experience, ideally within Human Capital.
  • Understanding of and interest in the Private Markets and/or Private Equity landscape is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft bespoke, impactful proposals and collaborating with senior stakeholders in doing so.
  • Strong project management and operational ability with exemplary detail-orientation.
  • Ability to work across global stakeholders internally and externally with clarity, transparency, and understanding of dynamics.
  • Balance of action-orientation, efficiency, and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent communication skills and credibility with senior executives and colleagues.
  • In possession of permanent U.S. work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Business Development & Proposal Crafting Lead the development of bespoke, advisory and multi‑solution proposals for Private Equity engagements, ensuring materials reflect client‑specific context, integrate relevant Leadership Advisory methodologies, and demonstrate clear strategic framing.
  • Participate in select client calls and early‑stage discussions to gain a firsthand understanding of client needs, enabling the rapid assembly of tailored, high-impact proposals in collaboration with PE advisory consultants.
  • Serve as an engine for shaping new multi‑solution engagement models (e.g., assessment partnerships, succession programs, performance acceleration initiatives) by synthesizing client needs with Spencer Stuart’s tools and capabilities.
  • Client Support & Opportunity Identification Partner with PE Consultants to identify emerging business development opportunities across key funds, portfolio companies, and multi‑solution pursuit areas.
  • Conduct targeted research, deal monitoring, and competitive benchmarking to surface trends, signals of advisory need, and opportunities for cross‑solution expansion.
  • Act as consistent project management and client enablement support for high touch advisory partnerships.
  • Team Coordination & Connectivity Act as a central coordination point across the Office of PE, LAS CDT, the Solutions Hub, and industry practices to ensure transparent communication and alignment in advisory pursuits.
  • Translate consultant needs into actionable workstreams, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of pitch materials, research requests, draft responses, and follow‑up items.
  • Development of Strategic Materials & Client Communications Build persuasive, story‑driven PowerPoint deliverables that clearly articulate complex ideas, advisory methodologies, and value propositions in a visually compelling manner.
  • Produce a variety of strategic materials, including one‑pagers, client-ready briefing documents, pricing guidance, and multi-stage pursuit trackers, customized for each client situation.
  • Ensure brand consistency, precision, and adherence to PE positioning across all materials.
  • Knowledge Management & Content Infrastructure Establish and maintain a robust knowledge library for the PE advisory business, including anonymized client decks, starter kits for major use cases (e.g., Performance Acceleration, Exit Readiness), case studies, pricing examples, and proposal templates.
  • Standardize deliverables for recurring advisory offerings, such as Pre‑Deal Assessments, working closely with the Solutions Hub to define best‑practice content, structure, and methodologies.
  • Create and disseminate a business development “playbook” documenting best practices, templates, and tools to enable consistent execution across the PE practice.
  • Performance Tracking & Operational Excellence Build, update, and deliver quarterly reporting and dashboards that track business development activity, proposal outcomes, win/loss learning, and other key performance metrics.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the PE advisory GTM system—including refining templates, strengthening workflows, and identifying opportunities for technology or process improvements.
  • Project Management & Execution Support Provide project management support for routine and complex advisory pursuits, ensuring timely delivery of materials, alignment across stakeholders, and consistent momentum in multi‑stage engagements.
  • Coordinate closely with Associates, Analysts, and Strategy & Operations to gather necessary data, assemble deliverables, and manage workstreams that underpin client pitches and broader business development efforts.
