The Senior Accountant, Treasury & Investment Operations is responsible for supporting the accounting, treasury, investment operations, and financial reporting functions of Sun Life Investments LLC. This role supports the Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer and President through the processing, reconciliation, accounting, and reporting of fixed income and derivative investment transactions. The position serves as a key liaison between accounting, portfolio management, custodial banks, counterparties, auditors, and operational service providers to ensure the accurate and timely settlement, accounting, and reporting of investment activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of accounting, treasury, investment operations, or financial reporting experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with fixed income securities, derivatives, investment accounting, or treasury operations preferred.
  • Experience with investment management and accounting systems such as BlackRock Aladdin, Summit, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Understanding of fixed income securities, derivative instruments, foreign exchange transactions, and investment settlement processes.
  • Experience with cash reconciliation and treasury management activities.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with portfolio managers, operations teams, auditors, custodians, and external counterparties.
  • Commitment to maintaining strong internal controls and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cash reconciliations between investment accounting systems and bank accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Monitor and document cash receipts and disbursements related to investment and operational activities.
  • Process, verify, and maintain documentation for fixed income and derivative transactions, including trade confirmations, settlements, exchanges, and terminations.
  • Coordinate wire transfers and settlement communications with counterparties and custodial institutions.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules related to investment settlements, foreign exchange activity, derivative transactions, guarantee fees, bank activity, and other accounting adjustments.
  • Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and control requirements.
  • Produce monthly investment, accounting, and control reports, including balance sheet reconciliations, foreign exchange analyses, derivative reporting, and portfolio reporting.
  • Generate investment analytics and portfolio support reports as required.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and special projects as assigned.
