Amplifier Test Manager

HARMAN InternationalRichardson, TX
$125,250 - $183,700Onsite

About The Position

As the Amplifier Test Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 6–8 test engineers responsible for the hardware, firmware, and DSP validation of high-power amplifiers, audio mixers, and other audio products. You will own the validation strategy and execution for multiple development programs, ensuring that testing provides clear, repeatable, and actionable engineering results. You will also advance the team’s test-automation capabilities, establish consistent validation and reporting standards, and develop the technical capabilities of the engineering team. In this role, you will report to the Director of Test Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in product validation, test engineering, embedded systems, professional audio, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience leading & coaching engineers or technical test teams, including responsibility for work prioritization, coaching, performance expectations, and employee development.
  • Experience leading & coaching engineers or technical test teams, including responsibility for work prioritization, coaching, performance expectations, and employee development.
  • Strong knowledge of audio measurement principles and the ability to interpret measurements such as frequency response, output level, noise, signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range, THD+N, IMD, crosstalk, phase, and group delay.
  • Hands-on experience using test equipment from Audio Precision, NI, Keysight, or similar to evaluate audio hardware.
  • Programming or test-automation experience, such as Python, LabVIEW, NI TestStand, C#/.NET, or a comparable language or platform.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical risk, validation status, and product-quality concerns to engineering teams and leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting or significantly expanding a test-automation framework, including reusable measurement libraries, instrument-control layers, device-under-test control libraries, reporting utilities, or test-sequencing infrastructure.
  • Experience integrating automated validation with requirements-management, defect-tracking, source-control, continuous-integration, or automated-reporting systems.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams and coordinating validation activities across global development locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a test engineering team responsible for hardware, firmware, DSP, and system-level product validation for high-power amplifiers, audio mixers, and other professional audio products
  • Define validation scope, coverage strategies, and detailed test plans for audio performance and signal-processing functions, including mixing, gain, filtering, delay, limiting, and protection.
  • Review test plans, procedures, schematics, automation solutions, and validation reports for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
  • Ensure validation results are traceable and repeatable and provide clear, actionable engineering conclusions.
  • Drive scalable test automation across hardware, firmware, and DSP validation, including audio measurements, DUT control, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Guide the development of reusable automation frameworks, measurement libraries, instrument-control tools, and DUT-control libraries that enable repeatable and reproducible validation setups.
  • Own end-to-end validation execution, from planning and scheduling through test oversight, issue management, and concise reporting of progress, coverage, defects, risks, resources, and milestone readiness.
  • Partner with the PMO, engineering leads, and stakeholders to estimate scope, schedules, costs, resources, and dependencies; identify slippage and technical risks early and drive recovery plans.
  • Manage team workload, resource allocation, and priorities across multiple development programs.
  • Ensure validation activities meet program phase entry and exit criteria and clearly communicate unresolved product risks.
  • Establish objective metrics for program delivery, test coverage, defect discovery, product quality, and automation maturity.
  • Partner with hardware, firmware, DSP, systems, and program teams to investigate failures and drive technical issues to resolution.
  • Assess individual and team skill gaps and address them through training, mentoring, peer reviews, and targeted assignments.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard engineers and test leads as organizational needs evolve.
