About The Position

The Arnhold Institute for Global Health at Mount Sinai and the Department of Global Health and Health System Design is seeking a motivated and dedicated physician with a focus on adolescent health to serve as Mount Sinai’s in-country lead for AMPATH Kenya’s adolescent health programs. Based in western Kenya, the AMPATH Kenya Adolescent Health In-Country Lead will help lead efforts to strengthen youth-friendly health services, expand adolescent health capacity within AMPATH Kenya, and support Mount Sinai’s care, education, and research programs in Kenya. The selected candidate will be appointed as faculty in the Department of Global Health and Health System Design. Candidates with multiple clinical and/or academic specialties will also be considered for joint primary or secondary faculty appointment in relevant clinical and/or academic departments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, e.g. a physician with both Family Medicine and Pediatrics specialties would be considered for joint primary or secondary appointments in the Departments of Global Health, Internal Medicine, and/or Pediatrics. Faculty rank will be commensurate with the individual’s qualifications and the duration of their commitment.

Requirements

  • Physician with a focus on adolescent health.
  • Proven clinical academic background in adolescent and global health.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, health systems strengthening, and advancing health equity.
  • Commitment to a minimum two-year term of service in Kenya (though shorter-term commitments may be considered on a case-by-case basis).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Mount Sinai’s in-country lead for AMPATH Kenya’s adolescent health programs.
  • Lead efforts to strengthen youth-friendly health services.
  • Expand adolescent health capacity within AMPATH Kenya.
  • Support Mount Sinai’s care, education, and research programs in Kenya.
  • Work with partners at Moi University, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), the Kenya Ministry of Health, the AMPATH Consortium, and other relevant stakeholders to build clinical capacity for adolescent friendly care programs and deliver youth friendly clinical care.
  • Supervise Mount Sinai trainees rotating in Kenya.
  • Engage in relevant research efforts to improve youth health.
  • Advance shared priorities for care, education, and research within appointed departments at Moi University and/or Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
