About The Position

P1 Service, LLC, part of the BCTS family of facility solutions providers, is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Ammonia Technician for its Lenexa office. This role supports the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, playing a critical role in ensuring system reliability, regulatory compliance, and efficient operation of refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities, a commitment to safety, and experience with ammonia refrigeration systems. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments and around industrial equipment safely.
  • Must enroll with Local 533 union if not already a member.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Refrigeration, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
  • IIAR (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration) Certification or similar industry certification.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training Certification.
  • Experience in food processing, cold storage, manufacturing, or another industrial environment.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintain accurate records of system pressures, temperatures, performance metrics, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure refrigeration systems are operating efficiently and safely while minimizing downtime.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on ammonia refrigeration equipment according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues.
  • Replace worn or defective components, including valves, pumps, piping, controls, and related equipment.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and system upgrades when necessary.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and protocols when working with anhydrous ammonia and other hazardous materials.
  • Participate in emergency response procedures, leak detection activities, and safety drills.
  • Maintain emergency response equipment and ensure readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable EPA, OSHA, PSM, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete ongoing safety training.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, technical drawings, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Work independently to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
