About The Position

The Ammonia Refrigeration Technician works independently to perform advanced maintenance and repairs throughout the warehouse. The technician evaluates work quality and efficiency by reviewing inspection and repair reports and observing progress on major overhauls. The role includes maintaining refrigeration and other warehouse systems and equipment, testing and calibrating HVAC equipment, troubleshooting equipment, documenting preventive maintenance, and performing related work as assigned. The position may require after-hours call-backs, flexible shifts, overtime, nights, and weekends. The pay rate is $39 per hour, with additional compensation available for CARO and CIRO certifications.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
High level of knowledge of the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
Must be certified to test sprinkler systems if the facility has such systems.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates must certify in six RETA courses during the first 18 months.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates must complete HAZMAT training and obtain and maintain the certification.
Ability to work with hands in mechanically oriented situations.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and interpret pencil sketches and diagrams.
Ability to work flexible shifts if required, including overtime.
Ability to relate to coworkers, perform work involving reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others, and respond appropriately to supervisor criticism.
Strong communication skills.
Knowledge of maintenance or trade equipment, ISO, Oracle, Microsoft programs, and forklift operation.
Must tolerate controlled indoor temperatures down to –15°F and outdoor ambient conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
Must tolerate heights up to 35 feet and access elevated platforms and catwalks; must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
Frequently stand, walk, push, pull, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to use hand and power tools and handle, feel, and manipulate parts and tools.
Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and depth perception, naturally or with corrective eyewear.
Able to work nights and weekends.
Able to pass a physical and respiratory exam.

Eight or more years of maintenance mechanic experience.

Responsibilities

Repair and adjust refrigeration systems, doors, dock boards, pallet racks, sweepers, sprinkler systems, forklifts, pallet trucks, and electrical systems in accordance with OSHA standards.
Inspect forklifts, pallet jacks, and other operating equipment for OSHA and operational compliance.
Review inspection and repair reports and observe major overhauls to evaluate efficiency and quality.
Test, maintain, and evaluate equipment using instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, pyrometers, and pressure gauges; test and calibrate HVAC equipment.
Inspect completed work for compliance with blueprints, specifications, and safety standards.
Troubleshoot equipment and recommend corrective action.
Maintain tools and machinery in good condition and use them carefully as instructed.
Maintain batteries and chargers in working order in accordance with OSHA standards.
Test safety equipment, including exit signs, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems, for OSHA and operational compliance.
Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records.
Follow attendance policy and report to work on time and ready for the assigned shift.
Answer after-hours call-backs as needed.
Keep the work area clean and perform housekeeping duties as required.
Perform related work and other job assignments as required.
