About The Position

GoodwillSR AmeriCorps members will assist with recruitment and outreach to our target audience to increase client engagement in Mission Services offerings to help individuals achieve gainful employment. AmeriCorps members may use several methods to reach clients: outreach calls, texts, social media, and other channels. AmeriCorps members will log all data into the assigned case management system. AmeriCorps members will recruit volunteers for GoodwillSR programs such as the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program. AmeriCorps members will participate in multiple training programs to gain skills and knowledge. As an AmeriCorps Tax Professional, you'll serve clients with diverse tax needs with the support of an expert team dedicated to providing you with the advanced tax training you'll need to be successful.

Requirements

  • Must complete 1700 hours in 11 months
  • Must complete and successfully certify in tax law training, including the use of electronic filing software.
  • Must be cleared by the intake & Interview station.
  • Must be able to review tax returns completed by fellow seasonal tax professionals and volunteer tax preparers.
  • Must be able to assist volunteers and clients with questions accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Must be able to assist Site Coordinator with prompt transmittal of tax returns in accordance with IRS guidelines and Goodwill best practices.
  • Must be able to assist Site Coordinator with timely resolution of rejected tax returns by contacting clients by phone, meeting with them when they return, explaining the reason for the rejection, and patiently working with them to resolve and resubmit the return.
  • Must be able to inform clients about additional financial services offered by Goodwill and in the community.
  • Must be able to perform other duties as assigned or requested by immediate supervisor or GoodwillSR leadership.
  • Must be able to implement several outreach service methods, including phone calls, emails, text messaging, social media campaigns, geo-marketing/geo-tracking, and special events.
  • Must be able to re-engage clients who have not visited the center for 31 days or more.
  • Must be able to invite clients to job fairs and special events.
  • Must be able to inform clients about services such as classes, free tax prep, Veterans Services, certification training, etc.
  • Must be able to promote virtual services and opportunities offered by GoodwillSR to our rural population.
  • Must pass a screen and a federal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and successfully certify in tax law training, including the use of electronic filing software, to provide free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers.
  • Prepare tax returns after being cleared by the intake & Interview station
  • Review tax returns completed by fellow seasonal tax professionals and volunteer tax preparers, ensuring that every taxpayer receives top quality service and that the tax returns are error-free.
  • Assist volunteers and clients with questions accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Assist Site Coordinator with prompt transmittal of tax returns in accordance with IRS guidelines and Goodwill best practices.
  • Assist Site Coordinator with timely resolution of rejected tax returns by contacting clients by phone, meeting with them when they return, explaining the reason for the rejection, and patiently working with them to resolve and resubmit the return.
  • Inform clients about additional financial services offered by Goodwill and in the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by immediate supervisor or GoodwillSR leadership.
  • Increase community awareness of the programs that GoodwillSR offers and support Mission services activities.
