About The Position

Under general direction from Nurse Leader, Nurse Manager or designee assists providers during exams. Performs a variety of clinical tasks in support of patient care in out-patient clinics including a variety of technical, procedural and information systems tasks involving patient care functions affecting the comfort, care and safety of patients.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent
One year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred)
Computer experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

Assists providers during exams, anticipating needs and adapting to complexity.
Attaches patients to diagnostic and medical equipment (e.g., dynamapp, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, pneumatic tourniquet).
Provides information, comfort, and care to patients during exams by explaining steps and status.
Ensures supplies and equipment are readily available for smooth operations and patient safety.
Provides patients with pre-printed discharge instructions.
Anticipates and ensures the correct number and type of supplies are available in each exam room.
Ensures equipment/supplies are available based on provider preference.
Responsible for efficient room utilization and minimizing patient wait time.
Escorts patients from the waiting area to exam areas.
Obtains vital signs.
Performs diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order.
Accurately labels, logs, and processes specimens according to protocol and Laboratory policies.
Enters patient data, condition, and care into the electronic medical record system.
Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels, including reordering, stocking, and cleaning.
Conducts inventory of supplies, rotates inventory, monitors expiration dates, requisitions supplies, reconciles orders, and tracks utilization for cost trending.
Makes recommendations for cost reduction in equipment and supplies.
Interacts and problem-solves with the purchasing department regarding backordered products.
Implements standard infection prevention measures (e.g., hand hygiene, contact/isolation precautions).
Monitors infection prevention practices for breaches and suggests corrections.
With RN oversight, precepts new Ambulatory Technologists, providing an overview of requirements and assuring competence.
Performs administrative duties, which may include scheduling and registration.
Assists providers with patient processes as a Surgical Procedure Assistant.
Prepares room and instrumentation for procedures.
Provides basic patient instruction regarding procedures.
Anticipates provider needs during procedures, obtains additional instrumentation, prepares specimens, and dresses wounds.
Checks and calibrates equipment according to protocol.
Sets up sterile fields as required.
Preps instrument trays for procedures.
Sterilizes instruments.
Prepares specimens in appropriate preservative medium and labels appropriately.
Ensures accuracy for all requisitions and verifies specimen labeling and logging.
Reviews discharge instructions with patients.
May train and coordinate activities of peers or support staff.
