About The Position

The Ambulatory Rx Assistance Pharmacy Technician provides prescription assistance for patients across the system in a number of ambulatory settings, including but not limited to infusion suites/expanded care, ambulatory clinics, and upon discharge from inpatient admission. This multi-faceted role requires expertise in Pharmacy and Billing with an understanding of Case Management and Social Work and facilitates financial assistance for patients related to prescription medications.

Requirements

  • Must become a Certified Pharmacy Technician within 2 years of your license issue date.
  • Must obtain your Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) license within 60 days of applying.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Student pharmacists and technicians licensed before 1/1/2008 are exempt and do not need to get certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients to identify prescription assistance needs and connect them with appropriate resources, manufacturer assistance, copay cards, and coupons.
  • Identify qualified patients, secure necessary paperwork, and facilitate enrollment in medication assistance programs.
  • Oversee the execution of assistance programs, including product replenishment, co-pay reimbursements, payment arrangements, and foundational assistance.
  • Submit and manage prescription prior authorizations with health insurance providers.
  • Contact community agencies, insurance companies, and pharmacies to gather information and coordinate care.
  • Monitor the posting of payments and reimbursements for medical benefit drugs to ensure assistance is successfully secured.
  • Collaborate with RN care coordinators, social workers, and pharmacists to build and execute a prescription plan for discharging patients.
  • Inform the patient and care team of the planned prescription assistance strategy.
  • Document all interactions and completed work accurately in the Epic Systems electronic health record, strictly adhering to the CM107 documentation policy.
  • Strictly follow the One Time Prescription Assistance Protocol for patients being discharged from the hospital.
  • Track, monitor, and report performance and financial metrics to your supervisor in a timely manner.
