This position works under the general supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider, and/or nursing leadership to provide nursing services in care and treatment of patients. The Ambulatory Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing and clinical support for clinical care and clinical research patients within the Department of Ophthalmology. The RN supports patient triage and urgent referrals, IV placement, blood draws, medication order entry and coordination, medication administration, laboratory monitoring, immunomodulatory therapy and infusion coordination, immunomodulatory therapy and infusion prior authorizations and coordination, patient education, and clinical research activities. Medication-related duties are performed as assigned, within the RN’s scope of practice, and in accordance with authorized provider orders and institutional policies. The RN also provides nursing support for ophthalmic procedures, including fluorescein angiography (FA) and indocyanine green (ICG) angiography; monitors for adverse events and medication or infusion reactions; and initiates appropriate nursing interventions and prescribed treatments. The RN activates and assists with rapid response or other emergency response services as indicated, within demonstrated competency and institutional policies, and collaborates with faculty and other members of the care team to support safe, timely, and coordinated patient care.
