About The Position

Under the direction of pharmacy leadership, this role performs a variety of routine support tasks integral to the operation of the pharmacy department. The position does not require direct patient care. The technician will assist in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications, utilize pharmacy technology, perform cycle counts, and may prepare compounded sterile products. They will also receive and sort shipments, deliver and stock inventory, maintain inventory in pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets, assist in training junior staff, and provide information and triage phone calls.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Pharmacy Technician [State License] required

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred
  • hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program 2-3 years preferred
  • Shows knowledge of the pharmacology of drugs and legal aspects of dispensing.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • Delivers and distributes medications to patient care areas.
  • Utilizes area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
  • Performs cycle counts as necessary.
  • Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, performs required pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare extemporaneous dosage forms, as applicable.
  • May prepare compounded sterile products using principles of aseptic technique, distribute and transport controlled substances under the appropriate state of control, or maintain code cart inventory.
  • Receives and sorts shipments of medications and supplies.
  • Recommends drug-related labs and interprets results when appropriate.
  • Delivers and stocks pharmacy inventory.
  • Maintains inventory in all pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), including charge stock orders, ADC shrinkage, and patient and clinic requisitions.
  • Responsible for assisting in the training of more junior staff.
  • Provides information and triages phone calls to the appropriate individual within the pharmacy department.
