About The Position

At National Jewish Health, our Medical Assistants play an essential role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care within a nationally recognized healthcare environment. This position supports clinical teams by ensuring efficient patient flow, providing high-quality clinical and administrative assistance, and contributing to an exceptional patient experience across specialty care areas. We are currently hiring for the following specialty clinics: Gastroenterology Department: Provides comprehensive care for patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and a wide range of GI tract conditions. We also offer colonoscopy services for colorectal cancer screening and prevention. Our Medical Assistants play an essential role in patient care by assisting with patient intake and providing education to help patients better understand and manage their health. Neurology Clinic: The Neurology Clinic provides care for patients with complex neurological conditions. In this role, you’ll support patient intake, obtain detailed histories, coordinate and perform neurodiagnostic testing, and assist with in-office procedures such as migraine Botox injections and nerve biopsies. Rheumatology Clinic: This is a fast-paced, growing clinic caring for patients with rheumatic and autoimmune diseases. Medical Assistants provide hands-on patient care, including obtaining vital signs, coordinating referrals, assisting with ultrasound-guided injection clinics, and supporting providers to deliver quality patient care. Position Summary Under the direct clinical support and supervision of a licensed professional, the Ambulatory Medical Assistant (MA) promotes efficient, high quality clinical practice by providing guidance through collaborating with the team to manage patient flow and communication, deliver safe and appropriate patient care within the scope of practice and established policies and procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma/GED and successful graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program or Emergency Medical Technician program
Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

Facilitate the rooming of patients and gather pertinent health information, including vital signs, medical history, current medications, and immunization status.
Accurately document all information in the electronic health record (EHR).
Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures, ensuring that necessary supplies are available.
Prepare patients for exams and administer immunizations or injections under supervision, as permitted by state regulations.
Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens such as blood or urine for analysis, adhering to clinic protocols and safety standards.
Provide patients with clear instructions regarding treatment plans, medication management, and follow-up care.
Act as a liaison between patients and providers to relay information and coordinate care.
Monitor and manage in-basket messaging, including triaging, routing, and responding to messages from patients, providers, and staff to support efficient clinic workflow and communication.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms and medical equipment.
Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and restocking of medical supplies as needed.
Assist with handling referrals, managing patient records, and performing other clerical duties that contribute to the smooth functioning of the clinic.
May utilize point of care instruments, such as the ISTAT, Piccolo, glucometer, etc.
May perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), ENO, Spirometry or other diagnostic tests on patients as directed, processes and files patient charts, and monitors procedure activity under supervision.
May participate in quality assurance and improvement activities on an ongoing basis and assist with preparation for regulatory surveys
