About The Position

NYU Grossman School of Medicine, a leading medical institution, seeks an Ambulatory Care Nurse to support the coordination, integration, communication, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies. This role involves participating in quality improvement activities, collecting patient data, and collaborating with providers to develop patient-centered care plans. The nurse will administer treatments and medications, monitor for adverse events, provide disease prevention guidance, and offer supportive care, including health teaching and counseling.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York.
  • If hired after 9/1/25: Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited institution required; Associate Degree in Nursing may be approved contingent upon approval from Nursing Leadership, with a minimum of two years nursing experience in applicable area and enrollment in a baccalaureate nursing program to be completed within 2 years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse License-NYS
  • Basic Life Support Cert
  • 2 years experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Performs physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
  • Collects patient health history.
  • Records information in electronic health record.
  • Provides information, counsel, and education to patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans.
  • Administers medications (including vaccination, IV therapy, oxygen administration), provides comprehensive wound care, and performs phone and in-person patient triage.
  • Assesses and monitors patient responses to treatments, procedures, and anesthesia.
  • Assesses and interprets patient information, making treatment decisions.
  • Consults with clinical supervisors and licensed providers to determine best treatment plans.
  • Directs, supervises, and delegates to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and technicians.
  • Supports the coordination, integration, communication, implementation, and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies.
  • Ensures clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
  • Supports key quality initiatives (e.g., MIPS, Care gap management).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the NYULH Service Standards.
  • Participates in designated activities related to NYULH clinical standards and regulations.
  • Supports the missions, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of NYULH, Departments of Nursing, and FGP.

  • Provides physical care including administration of treatments and medication, disease prevention guidance, rehabilitation care, public health care, and supportive care for symptom relief.
  • Performs onsite testing (e.g., POC lab testing, EKG, specimen collection, auditory & visual test, risk screening, fetal monitoring, spirometry, allergy skin testing, TB skin testing).
  • Performs medical and nursing treatments in accordance with plan of care and provider orders.
  • Performs procedures (e.g., hot & cold applications, cast/splint application/removal, suture/staple removal, urinary bladder irrigation, urinary catheter insertion/removal/care, ear irrigation).
  • Applies and removes dressings, and performs wound care.
  • Assists with Minor and Major Procedures.
  • Performs patient monitoring including pre, intra, post procedure, testing, medication administration, and/or sedation.
  • Provides medication administration (IM, PO, SQ, ID, IV topical, inhalation, ocular, vaginal, rectal) as per provider orders or protocols.
  • Facilitates medication refills by reviewing clinical information and preparing orders for provider authorization.
  • Administers IV therapy including blood, blood products, IV fluids, chemotherapy (with certification), and IV medications.
  • Starts and discontinues peripheral IV lines.
  • Maintains peripheral and central IV lines and manages complications.
  • Ensures clinical in-baskets are managed and encounters closed in a timely manner.
  • Receives, documents, and reports critical lab values.
  • Relays normal and abnormal clinical results, follow-up, and explanation to patients.
  • Performs preliminary review of results for prioritization of urgent findings.
  • Performs in-person and phone triage for patient clinical concerns with appropriate escalation.
  • Performs Care/Case management of a defined population.
  • Identifies patient, family, and/or community deviations from health and wellbeing.
  • Advocates for, initiates, and/or recommends appropriate actions.
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine health status and nursing diagnoses.
  • Reports deviations requiring medical diagnosis and/or treatment to provider.
  • Escalates urgent/emergent deviations to medical provider and/or emergency care.
  • Identifies expected outcomes and anticipates unexpected or adverse outcomes.
  • Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups.
  • Assesses patients' ability to adapt to new situations.
  • Identifies barriers to optimal care.
  • Assesses & identifies learning needs; documents and updates accordingly.
  • Develops patient-centered plans of care that prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes.
