About The Position

The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative communities with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish. As a key member of the Tribeca Campus team, the Ambassador provides guests with a welcoming, safe, and trauma-informed environment that fosters connection to God and others. The Ambassador creates “name-knowing” trust-based relationships by addressing immediate needs. Utilizing Motivational Interviewing, supports guests’ desire to choose help, stabilize during their Emergency Shelter stay, and take positive next steps towards independent living and life transformation. The Ambassador is instrumental in outreach and recruiting efforts to increase visibility and greater participation within TBM’s continuum of care, especially residential programming. Assists with daily shelter check-in and orients new guests. Maintains a highly collaborative approach, offering the team support for service delivery as needed. Comply with all internal and external recordkeeping requirements and standards.

Requirements

  • Embrace's the organization’s Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or other relevant field or equivalent work and education.
  • 2 years+ experience in a relevant setting (ministry, non-profit, or human services) with support to managers/specialists.
  • Computer & email proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Connect guests to additional services within the TBM continuum of care, including TBM Social Worker services and Residential Program and relevant external resources (medical care, mental health care, detox, legal support, etc.).
  • Lead Day Center groups/classes on topics such as goal setting and art. Host partner-led Day center services such as benefits enrollment and health education.
  • Provide conflict de-escalation/resolution and emergency response according to TBM protocol.
  • Assist with daily shelter check-in processes and new guest intake, including completing the shelter intake form, reviewing the Community Life Guidelines, and creating TBM guest ID cards.
  • Welcome, orient, and/or train volunteers. Ensure volunteers are connected to the staff members overseeing their assignment.
  • Comply with all internal and external recordkeeping requirements and standards.
  • Follow incident reporting protocol. As needed, prepare and provide individual outcome information for TBM reports.
