Requirements

  • Must have and maintain an active Management Level Food Handler’s Certification (ServSafe) and adhere to local food handler requirement.
  • Maintain an exceptional personal record of punctuality and attendance.
  • Consistently perform all duties in a responsible and efficient manner.
  • Able to collaborate with other teams by supporting them when there is shorter staffing in other locations, which may require some flexible schedule in certain occasions.
  • Constant use of hands when handling food, carts, cooking equipment, etc.
  • Constant use of hands while prepping food.
  • Constant grasping food, cooking and equipment.
  • Occasionally pushing/pulling food racks, carts, etc.
  • Occasionally rotating body.
  • Constant lifting and carrying objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying objects 21-40lbs pounds (Items weighing over 40 lbs. must be carried by two (2) people).
  • Frequent pushing and pulling of loaded and unloaded carts and cooking equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision for safe navigation of work area and use of equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending and twisting are required to perform cooking and food prep duties.
  • Squatting and kneeling may be required.
  • Good balance required to safety perform all assigned tasks.
  • Neck flexion and usage will be constant while performing assigned tasks.
  • Heavy and repetitive hand and arm motion involved in production and clean up.
  • Reaching across surfaces while moving containers, reaching above shoulders for containers for removal and storage.
  • Standing a minimum of 8 hours a day.
  • Carrying containers of different sizes and different types of product of all shapes and sizes.
  • Removing hot items from oven.
  • Able to work ten hours plus shifts plus ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must possess hearing, visual and sensory abilities to observe and detect emergency situations; also distinguish product, taste, texture, temperature and presentation and preparation.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary Degree (preferred but not required)
  • 1-2 years of experience in high volume production of baking goods, or comparable experience.
  • Baking experience is essential
  • Moderate kitchen skills and etiquettes.
  • Strong Communication, time and resource management, and planning skills.
  • Sense of urgency.
  • Able to multi-task.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Ability to move throughout the café and kitchen.
  • Experience producing the following products from scratch: cookies, bars, pie crusts, etc.
  • Attention to detail, especially when performing quality inspections on ingredients and products.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Willingness to work independently or with management to solve problems, fulfill tasks, follow recipes and create amazing baked goods.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, bakes, cooks, and serves various pastries, cookies and breads.
  • Accommodates special needs of the guests by preparing nut free, gluten free and vegan varieties.
  • Measuring and combining ingredients and using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other equipment to make baked goods, such as cookies, bread, cakes, etc.
  • May collaborate ideas for menus.
  • May be responsible for recurring inventories.
  • May be responsible for supporting the ordering process, by supplying the pastry specific needs for a to be determined future date(s).
  • May be responsible for supplying ingredients to café admin for all necessary food cards and menus.
  • Will be responsible for ensuring the food cards and menus are accurate and complete.
  • Responsible for food quality and production.
  • Check quantities of the desserts that are displayed, replenishes when necessary.
  • Uses carts to transport dry, wet, and finished products to and from freezer/refrigerator.
  • Follows safety and sanitation procedures with all guidelines from OSHA, Department of Public Health and Risk Management.
  • Decorating and displaying finished products by following menu standards and expectations.
  • Tracks and documents proper sanitation, time and temperature holding, and completion of duties.
  • Engages positively with guests, continuously seeking opportunities to improve the customer experience.
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the menu and any applicable allergens and dietary restrictions.
  • Participates in teamwork with peers.
  • Follows safety and sanitation procedures and guidelines from OSHA, Department of Public Health, and Risk Management.
  • Tasting ingredients and finished goods to ensure that each item meets food safety and quality controls.
  • May deliver baked goods to other locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
