About The Position

The Alumni Manager works collaboratively to manage and execute the national alumni program at Dallas College for small business owners who have graduated the program in their market. The mission of the alumni program is to provide continued business education to help graduates grow their businesses, create a community of active alumni through meaningful engagement, to capture and elevate the impact of the program through consistent and accurate data and story collection. This position is funded by external grant resources. Employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and program needs. Continued employment is not guaranteed and may be impacted if funding is reduced, modified, or discontinued.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in business related area preferred.
  • At least (3) three years of relevant work experience with small business or entrepreneurship such as training, consulting, or ownership is required.
  • At least (3) three years of experience with community building, event planning, project management, and program planning is required.
  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures that affect scholars and/or employees, applying them fairly and consistently; ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations; and applies best practices that are in direct support of the overall vision, mission and goals of the 10,000 Small Business program and Dallas College.
  • Able to clearly represent own area of responsibility, seeking new knowledge and tools to advance the objectives of the program and the College.
  • Cultivates alliances across internal and external boundaries and partners to build and maintain strong working relationships, including connections with and between alumni.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor, inspires confidence and models integrity in decisions, communications, and treatment of all individuals internal/external to the college community.

  • Strong event promotion and marketing experience is required including how to leverage social media platforms to drive interest and attendance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships is essential in this role.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to cultural differences across a wide range of stakeholders and successful experience communicating and collaborating in a diverse setting is required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing work environment requiring flexibility and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Significant related experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating educational sessions in-person and/or online especially business educational programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the local region’s small business and economic development landscape is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with program graduates and keep informed of updates to their businesses (including but not limited to news, awards, press, challenges, and location/contact information changes) by proactively reaching out and manage a system to track these updates and changes.
  • Assume the lead responsibility for the multi-faceted system of data collection and reporting on alumni including the alumni measurement and evaluation (M&E) diagnostics as well as other surveys and research/requests for information.
  • Serve as the main liaison between the program and 10KSB graduates from the site for alumni programming, online/virtual engagement, data collection, and responsiveness to Goldman Sachs Foundation/national partner requests.
  • Responsible for overseeing the site’s work with the 10KSB app and for meeting or exceeding targets for usage and engagement by business owners including onboarding business owners to the app when they start the program, monitoring local alumni participation on the app for overall engagement, liaising with alumni who need support on the app, creating and curating content for this community of business owners.
  • Work closely with the student team to successfully recruit and match students and alumni.
  • Attend select modules of the program to meet and network with scholars (future alumni) including to present and answer questions about the alumni program and to aid in recruitment efforts by soliciting program referrals.
  • Network within the broader entrepreneurship/small business ecosystem to be a conduit for alumni who need resources and to further program outreach and recruitment goals.
  • The alumni manager will also periodically represent the College and the program at external small business / community events as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Keep accurate records on progress towards alumni program goals and other initiatives for timely reporting to national partners including monthly dashboard reporting and for grant reports.
  • Represent the 10ksb programs at high-profile internal and external events, often outside of normal business hours.
  • Work directly with other team members, including the Executive Director and Outreach Director, to prepare for and execute these events.
  • Work as a collaborative partner with other alumni managers at other sites and contribute positively to the work of the national alumni program.
  • Responsible for managing the lead database system and other technical programs and software used to obtain statistics, return on investment (ROI), as well as analyze and create reports for funding entity and other stakeholders.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
