About The Position

Career Services empowers students and alumni to achieve their career goals by providing comprehensive resources, personalized guidance, and meaningful opportunities. Through career exploration, workshops, fairs, and on-campus employer visits, we foster an environment where students can actively shape their career paths. We also collaborate with employers to build strong connections with the campus community, helping them meet their recruitment needs and hiring goals. This role offers the opportunity to develop and strengthen customer service skills, become a resource for students regarding Career Services, and understand and reflect on your own career development.

Requirements

  • Interest in helping other college students.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Outgoing and energetic with excellent customer service skills (in person and over the phone).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Maintain professional behavior and dress appropriately (business casual).
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a team of professionals and other students.
  • Current undergraduate CMU student in good academic standing.
  • Work Study or MAVworks award required.
  • Must fulfill a year commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in all aspects of working at the front desk of the Career Center.
  • Accept tasks and projects, as assigned, including Alumni & Career Services event assistance.
  • Manage the CMU Business Closet at all locations, accepting donations and sorting/bagging items.
  • Assist the Alumni & Career Services staff with ACS events (including set-up and tear-down).
  • Ensure the office is well organized, clean, and maintained.
  • Update information packets, providing a high-level of attention to detail.
  • Answer the Career Services phone politely and professionally.
  • Provide friendly customer service to students, alumni, and employers, and be knowledgeable of campus/community resources.
  • Assist with checking and responding to the Career Services main email account.
  • Assist students with the operation of Handshake and other ACS resources.
  • Make appointments for Career Services professional staff utilizing Handshake appointment’s function and Microsoft Outlook calendar.
  • Perform accurate and detailed data entry, when needed.
  • Attend training sessions at the beginning of the semester and scheduled team meetings.
