About The Position

The Welder position is responsible for welding various materials associated with the company’s product lines including, but not limited to, truck bodies and specialty vehicles. This role involves using modification and welding skills to rework cab and other components, performing welding according to blueprints, and fabricating components from raw stock. The Welder will also read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, and blueprints, while understanding and articulating the production flow of their assigned area. Self-checking work, inspecting prior processes, and using basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools are also key aspects of the role. The position requires meeting production goals, maintaining a clean and safe work area, initiating process improvements, supporting 5S in the work area, and leading/performing lean events. Effective communication with manufacturing and cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) is essential for resolving issues and solving complex problems with minimal assistance.

HS Diploma or GED required

Basic computer skills are required
Must be able to pass the required welding certification test in the following AWS material sections: D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D1.6, and D9.1.
Must understand AWS welding symbols
Must be able to set up, adjust, and maintain welding machines
Must be able to Mig or Tig weld steel, stainless, and aluminum as needed

AWS Certification preferred
Previous experience and/or certifications preferred

Responsibilities

Use modification and welding (minimum AWS 3G/4G level) skills to rework cab and other components
Perform welding (AWS 3G/4G) according to blueprints
Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete welding in the assigned area
Fabricate components from raw stock
Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, etc.
Understand, and be able to articulate, the production flow of an assigned product line or area
Self-check work and inspect prior processes
Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
Meet production goals
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Initiate process improvements
Support 5S in work area
Lead/perform lean events
Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
Solve complex problems with minimal assistance
Learn and rotate within various weld areas
Wear PPE respirators for an extended amount of time
Improve self/area/company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
Develop a working knowledge of the company’s systems (example: AS/400)
Read and comprehend blueprints including weld specifications
Work overtime on short notice
