About The Position

The Iowa Migratory Education Program at the University of Northern Iowa seeks applications for a temporary Alternative Literacy Instructor, to work on a special project for the month of July 2026. This position will work approximately 122 hours for the month of July and the hourly rate will be $15.00. This position collaborates closely with University of Northern Iowa (UNI) faculty to design and deliver high‑quality literacy instruction for high school students. This role focuses on creating engaging curriculum, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs, and using ongoing assessment data to guide instructional decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus certified to teach in the state of Iowa required.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with UNI faculty to design, adapt, and implement reading and writing curriculum aligned with MEP goals and student needs.
  • Modify lessons, materials, and instructional approaches to support varied learning styles, language proficiency levels, and academic backgrounds of MEP high school students.
  • Use ongoing assessment tools (observations, student work, quick checks) to monitor progress and adjust instruction in real time.
  • Provide targeted academic support to help students strengthen literacy skills and build confidence as readers and writers.
  • Facilitate engaging lessons that promote comprehension and effective communication.
