About The Position

The Westerkirk Alternative Investments team is seeking a Co-Op Student to join the team in Victoria, BC for a 4- or 8-month term starting in September 2026. The team invests across private equity funds and direct investments, with work spanning sourcing, diligence, and portfolio monitoring. This role offers broad exposure to the private investment process, including manager meetings, opportunity screening, due diligence, investment analysis, portfolio monitoring, and internal process improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced investment professionals in a lean, collaborative environment. Westerkirk is an institutional-scale single-family office managing assets through direct investment strategies and external managers across a variety of asset classes, including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, and real estate.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program, with preference for candidates in their 3rd or 4th year.
• Strong academic performance.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; prior financial modelling experience is an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information clearly and concisely.
• High attention to detail, sound judgment, and a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
• Curiosity, initiative, and an interest in improving processes and workflows.
• Demonstrated interest in private equity, private markets, and investing more broadly.

Nice To Haves

• Prior financial modelling experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings with private equity managers and other external counterparties and summarize key takeaways.
• Conduct industry, market, manager, and company research to support screening and due diligence.
• Assist in evaluating private equity fund commitments and direct investment opportunities.
• Maintain accurate, organized records of pipeline, diligence, and portfolio information within CRM and other internal systems.
• Support the development of investment views, including key merits, risks, and mitigants.
• Prepare presentation materials, investment summaries, and other internal decision-support materials.
• Assist with financial analysis and modelling related to prospective and existing investments.
• Support ongoing monitoring of portfolio investments and external managers.
• Contribute to workflow improvement initiatives, including the use of data and AI tools to enhance team efficiency.
