About The Position

The Domestic Violence program at Unity House of Troy has openings for a part-time Alternating Weekend Advocate position for either morning 7:30AM-3:30PM or evening 3:30PM-11:30PM. This role provides coverage for staff, ensuring the satisfactory and safe functioning of the Domestic Violence emergency residence. The advocate will engage in victim-centered and trauma-informed interactions, provide crisis intervention, and manage necessary resources and paperwork.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1-2 years previous experience working with victims of domestic violence
  • Hotline and crisis management experience preferred.
  • Reliable transportation
  • A valid NYS driver's license is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for staff, while ensuring the satisfactory and safe functioning of the Domestic Violence emergency residence.
  • Answer phones and texts including the Unity House Domestic Violence Hotline and NYS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault/PREA Hotlines.
  • Handling miscellaneous site issues.
  • Engage in ongoing victim-centered and trauma-informed interactions with program residents.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Obtain necessary resources, and complete associated paperwork.
  • Promote an environment of inclusion and belonging.
