About The Position

In the absence of the Center's Food Service Worker 1, the Alternate Food Service Worker 1 is responsible for carrying out the Food Service Worker 1's duties. This role, within a Multi-Service Senior Center, operates under the direct supervision of the Senior Center Manager 2. The primary responsibility is ensuring the congregate meal program functions consistently with the policies of the Area Agency on Aging and other relevant state and local agencies.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn the proper care and use of simple food service utensils and equipment.
  • Ability to learn routine tasks involved in the food service operation.
  • Ability to learn the methods, materials, and practices used in maintaining established standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to work effectively with other people.
  • Ability to follow simple oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the center's congregate meal program is consistent with all applicable health and sanitation regulations.
  • Monitoring the quality of bulk food, temperature, and portions daily.
  • Reporting any inadequacies to the nutrition project director and Senior Center Services Director 2.
  • Preheating the steam serving counter, preparing hot and cold beverages, and setting up the serving counter with food, trays, dishes, and utensils.
  • Coordinating the distribution of hot food items with volunteer assistance.
  • Coordinating the washing of pots, pans, and other preparatory utensils.
  • Sanitizing dining, serving, and kitchen areas.
  • Cleaning refrigerators, food carts, coffee pots, and other equipment with volunteer assistance.
  • Maintaining an inventory of nutrition supplies.
  • Monitoring nutrition records.
  • Counting and depositing nutrition contributions.
  • Processing a participant's request for a therapeutic diet.
  • Performing other duties as required.
