Support the development and execution of a strategic business plan for the Alt Placement Solutions organization, aligned with HIG’s Business Insurance strategic priorities to solve target customer needs. Partner closely with Business Insurance leadership (e.g., Heads of Segments, CUOs, and Strategy leaders) to identify, evaluate, and prioritize alternative placement opportunities. Contribute to the design and delivery of innovative underwriting program structures and operating models that support profitable growth and enhance value for clients, distribution partners, and capital providers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Insurance carrier experience in a role that has a focus on financial analysis, corporate finance, strategy, or consulting is required.
  • Strong financial modeling skills with experience building and evaluating projections, scenarios, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Proven high proficiency in Excel is required; experience with SQL, Python, or other analytical tools is preferred.
  • Understanding of Property & Casualty insurance fundamentals and insurance operations.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear insights and executive‑ready recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation to senior leaders.
  • Highly motivated, intellectually curious, and proactive, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive work to completion.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and collaboration skills across cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic direction and opportunity pipeline for Alt Placement programs in collaboration with the Head of Alt Placement, Alt Placement Solutions Strategy Deal Team Lead, and Business Insurance segment leaders. Support sourcing, marketing, and underwriting of business use cases. Support development of business cases and financial analyses to evaluate, prioritize, and execute initiatives aligned with Business Insurance strategic objectives. Partner with business leaders to assess program structure, economic viability, and scalability of alternative placement solutions.
  • Lead financial data gathering, modeling, and analysis to support decision‑making for Alt Placement opportunities across Business Insurance. Develop financial projections, pro‑formas, and scenario analyses to assess profitability, capital efficiency, and risk/return tradeoffs of program opportunities. Assess, evaluate, and prioritize Alt Placement opportunities that solve for out of appetite risk, build innovation intelligence, and create a seamless customer experience. Prepare and present clear, data‑driven insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders to inform deal structure, pricing considerations, and go-forward strategy. Support evaluation of third‑party capital participation by assessing economic alignment, return expectations, and structural considerations.
  • Build, maintain, and stress‑test financial models (e.g., cash flow projections, scenario and sensitivity analyses) to evaluate program economics and performance under varying assumptions. Assess financial sustainability and long-term value creation for HIG, MGUs, and capital partners. Conduct market, industry, and competitive research to support recommendations on underwriting parameters, program structure, and growth opportunities.
  • For in‑force Alt Placement programs, develop program‑specific financial performance monitoring tools and reporting frame works. Drive program launch, performance monitoring, and scaling decisions, ensuring alignment with underwriting appetite and margin objectives. Analyze portfolio performance trends, key drivers, and variances against expectations. Deliver ongoing performance insights, feedback, dashboards, and recommendations to business leaders to support oversight and continuous improvement. Support data governance, reporting standards, and downstream performance measurement requirements for Alt Placement Solutions programs.
  • Partner with colleagues across Finance, Strategy, Underwriting, and Operations supporting Business Insurance alternative placement initiatives. Manage internal stakeholder relationships and communicate concepts in a clear, concise, and actionable manner. Prepare executive‑level presentations and materials summarizing financial performance, opportunity assessments, and strategic recommendations.
  • Role will require the ability to partner with cross functional teams and leverage a combination of thought leadership, bias for action and continuous improvement mindset to build and deliver strategic capabilities/assets that unlock new sources of growth and transform the business with Alt placement solutions.
