This includes rapid evaluation of life-threatening emergencies, implementation of prescribed therapies within the scope of practice, and collaboration with nursing and medical teams to establish treatment goals. The role maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and demonstrating responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior. It utilizes and promotes the use of technology and equipment to enhance the safety of patients and staff. Effective communication is key to promoting information sharing throughout the continuum of care and as an effective member of the healthcare team. The role demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model, including shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, and professional development. This promotes leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice, and accountability for actions and critical thinking. The ALS Paramedic acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care, identifying clinical priorities and initiating actions to improve patient outcomes. They use medications, treatments, and protocols within the scope of practice as defined by NCOEMS, under physician orders. The role performs and maintains competency for point-of-care testing, ensuring compliance with WFBH Point of Care policies and applicable regulations. Documentation of all rendered medications and treatments in the Electronic Medical Record, along with patient re-assessments, is required in accordance with hospital policy. High-level teamwork with other members of the Emergency Department Care team is essential, supporting an environment of evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives. The role demonstrates the organization's patient promise at all times and facilitates optimal patient flow through the Emergency Department, ensuring the safety and security of all patients.
