Alignment Scientist/Engineer
About The Position
AE Studio is seeking an Alignment Scientist/Engineer to join their alignment research team. This role involves working on high-upside, under-resourced alignment research projects. The team focuses on ideas that could be more impactful than what is currently funded or pursued by larger organizations. The position offers significant autonomy, allowing researchers to pursue impactful directions with a dedicated technical team to execute the work. The research is supported by AE Studio's success as an ML consultancy and channeled through the AI Alignment Foundation. The team collaborates with leading institutions and researchers in the field, and their work is published at major ML conferences.
Requirements
- Experience with ML research, alignment research, or both.
- Belief in AI alignment and the possibility of meaningful progress.
- Strong Python skills.
- Experience building, training, or evaluating deep learning models (NLP, vision, or LLMs).
- Experience calling AI model APIs via REST or client libraries.
- Ability to break complex problems into concrete experiments and execute them.
- Eagerness to use AI tools and automate tasks.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
- Clear communicator in English, able to explain technical work to non-technical audiences.
Nice To Haves
- Self-directed research or data science projects (especially those that increase human agency).
- Software engineering background and best practices.
- Agile experience (Kanban, Scrum, XP).
- Experience managing clients and client relationships.
