This is a statewide position within the Department of Public Safety's Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) Division. The employee will be expected to demonstrate the ability to understand technologies and problem resolution techniques, utilize proven solutions and/or designs when solving problems, clearly communicate and convey technical information, and express thoughts effectively through oral and written communication to a wide range of audiences. Job responsibilities include investigating criminal matters, specializing in the enforcement of alcoholic beverage, controlled substance, tobacco, and gaming laws of North Carolina. This involves the collection and preservation of evidence, providing testimony in court, apprehending violators, conducting major criminal investigations that benefit communities, and collaborating with federal agencies on task forces addressing criminal enterprises and money laundering. The role also includes providing support during natural disasters through humanitarian relief and supplementing local law enforcement with routine patrol and responding to calls for service. ALE Special Agents have statewide jurisdiction to investigate any criminal offense and make arrests. ALE is the lead enforcement agency for the state's alcoholic beverage control, lottery, and tobacco laws, targeting establishments that are havens for violence, drugs, gang activity, organized crime, and money laundering. The mission of the ALE Division is to reduce crime and enhance public safety through proactive, fair, and consistent enforcement of laws related to alcoholic beverage control, gambling, tobacco, controlled substances, and nuisance abatement.
