About The Position

The Alcohol & Drug Counselor 2 provides counseling and case-management services to alcohol- and other drug-dependent patients and clients at Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare. The counselor supports patients and clients from intake through discharge, delivers individual and group therapy, develops and monitors treatment plans, maintains clinical documentation, and coordinates referrals and treatment with community resources and the broader treatment team. This is a permanent, full-time, hourly classified position within the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit. The work is performed at the Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare campus in Columbus, Ohio, on a Monday–Friday schedule: either 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., plus one evening per week, usually Tuesday, to host an AA meeting at the hospital. The listed compensation is $27.48–$34.35 per hour. Unless a union contract or Ohio law requires otherwise, the selected candidate starts at Step 1, with an opportunity for an increase after six months of satisfactory performance and annual raises thereafter. The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health describes itself as a recovery-friendly workplace that supports employee well-being and fosters an inclusive, stigma-free environment. Eligible employees may receive medical coverage, dental, vision and basic life insurance premiums at no cost after the eligibility period, paid leave and holidays, family leave, education and development opportunities, and access to public retirement systems and optional deferred compensation. Benefits eligibility depends on several factors. The selected candidate must undergo a criminal background check and, if tentatively selected, urinalysis for illegal drug use before appointment. Criminal convictions are individually assessed; certain offenses may disqualify applicants. Reasonable accommodations are available for the application process, assessment, or interview.
