About The Position

Davey Resource Group Inc. (DRG): Is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Davey Tree Expert Company, headquartered in Kent, Ohio has opportunities for career positions for persons interested in the field of Ecological Sciences. This entry level Climbing Environmental Technician position involves working as a member of one of our project teams conducting invasive species surveys in the Clermont County, Ohio area. This position will assist with Asian Longhorn Beetle (ALB) projects. Position Description: The position involves the climbing survey of trees in order to assess the presence of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB). Field data regarding tree species identification, tree measurements, and overall health of the tree will be used by the United States Department of Agriculture and Ohio Department of Agriculture to detect all ALB infested trees in order to eliminate the infestations. Candidates shall have the ability to work outside in all weather conditions and in rugged terrain. This position is extremely physical and requires climbing multiple trees per day in their entirety. The work requires hiking for extended periods of time through woodlots, wetlands, and fields while carrying approximately 50lbs. of climbing gear to reach the intended area of survey. Excellent communication skills, great attitude, and ability to work in a team environment are required. This is a full time position, however survey work is weather dependent.This position is located in Bethel, Ohio.

Requirements

  • Applicants should be college graduates with a minimum of a two-year degree from an accredited University or College in forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, plant biology, conservation, or environmental science or related fields.
  • At least one year of tree climbing experience or a working knowledge of climbing techniques is required.
  • Applicants must have excellent tree identification skills.
  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to read/follow maps is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants with previous tree climbing experience are highly preferred.
  • Computer literacy is beneficial since the work involves the use of advanced technology equipment such as hand-held computers, pen-tablet computers, GPS equipment and GIS and tree management software.
