About The Position

The Specialist provides comprehensive, turnkey support for all fire alarm, security, and life‑safety systems across Athens‑Clarke County facilities, delivering both scheduled and unscheduled services through highly trained, certified technicians. Responsibilities include full testing, inspection, preventive maintenance, repair, and monitoring of fire, burglar, and panic alarm systems, along with all related components such as detectors, notification appliances, control panels, CCTV and intercom systems, access control devices, surge protection, power supplies, and UPS units. The Specialist ensures all systems and ancillary equipment operate cohesively and remain fully code‑compliant, while providing continuous alarm monitoring, rapid troubleshooting, accurate documentation, and coordination with County personnel and emergency responders. This role maintains peak system performance through expert diagnostics, adherence to industry standards, and ongoing compliance with all applicable codes and manufacturer specifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in the testing, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of fire alarm, security, and life‑safety systems in commercial, institutional, or governmental facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience servicing a wide range of fire alarm and security system components, including detectors, notification appliances, control panels, CCTV systems, access control devices, intercom/paging systems, and related ancillary equipment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex integrated systems and perform corrective maintenance in accordance with NFPA standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable local and state codes.
  • NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems (required or strongly preferred depending on proposal strategy).
  • NICET certification in Inspection & Testing of Fire Alarm Systems (preferred).
  • State‑issued Low Voltage or Alarm Technician License, where applicable.
  • Documented manufacturer training or certification for major fire alarm and security system platforms (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, Honeywell, Bosch, EST, Silent Knight).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety training certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and system documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET certification in Inspection & Testing of Fire Alarm Systems
  • State‑issued Low Voltage or Alarm Technician License, where applicable.
  • Documented manufacturer training or certification for major fire alarm and security system platforms (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, Honeywell, Bosch, EST, Silent Knight).
