About The Position

Canyon State Electric is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fire Alarm Systems Programmer with NICET certification to join our dynamic team. This role is critical to the programming, configuration, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting of fire alarm systems to ensure full compliance with applicable codes and design intent. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering reliable, code-compliant life safety systems while supporting our commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • NICET Level II–IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred (Level I considered with strong programming experience).
  • Proven experience programming and commissioning fire alarm systems, including addressable and networked panels.
  • Strong working knowledge of fire alarm system architecture, device addressing, cause-and-effect programming, and system networking.
  • Familiarity with multiple fire alarm manufacturers and software platforms preferred (e.g., Notifier, Autocall, Siemens, Edwards, Fire-Lite, or similar).
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex programming and system integration issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers, inspectors, and team members.
  • High level of attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy, code compliance, and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including construction sites and occupied facilities. Must be able to ascend ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift equipment up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Program, configure, and modify fire alarm control panels and networked systems in accordance with engineered drawings, sequence of operations, and applicable codes.
  • Perform system commissioning, acceptance testing, and verification of new and existing fire alarm systems, ensuring proper device operation, annunciation, and integration.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues related to programming, communication networks, device mapping, and system logic to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct system upgrades, software revisions, and reprogramming to accommodate system expansions or code updates.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and field technicians to ensure programming aligns with project requirements and installation conditions.
  • Verify system compliance with local, state, and national codes, including NFPA standards and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
  • Accurately complete programming documentation, testing reports, as-built drawings, and compliance records. Maintain detailed and organized system records.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to installation and service technicians, assisting with troubleshooting and training as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with customers, inspectors, and AHJs regarding system operation, testing results, and corrective actions.
  • Stay current with fire alarm technologies, manufacturer software platforms, and evolving fire protection codes and standards.
